Meet Our Staff

Our Principal is Mr. Jonathan Beilke M.S. Ed. He also teaches Grades 5 and 6.

     Jonathan Beilke has served as an administrator and upper grade teacher for the past 12 years. Three of those years were spent at our WELS school in Los Angeles, California where he taught in a multicultural, multigrade setting. He then accepted a call to serve as Principal and 7&8 grade teacher at Saint Paul's in Mount Calvary, Wisconsin before coming to Salem.

     Mr. Beilke graduated in 2005 from Martin Luther College (located in New Ulm, MN) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Upon completion of the program he received a teaching license from the state of Minnesota. While at MLC his area of emphasis was social studies. In 2016 he completed a Master of Science degree in Education with an Educational Leadership emphasis through Martin Luther College. Mr. Beilke is also a licensed archery instructor through NASP (National Archery in Schools Program), and a disc golf enthusiast.

     Mr. Beilke's wife Sarah also graduated from MLC with a degree in elementary education. They have three daughters, Katherine (9), Chloe (7), and Phoebe (5) and one son Silas (2).

Our 7-8th Grade teacher and Athletic Director is Mr. Ryan Randall.

Ryan Randall has served as a teacher for the last 12 years. All 12 of those years were spent at Saint Lucas in Milwaukee, WI. While at Saint Lucas, Mr. Randall taught 3,4, and 7 grade, served as AD, and most recently was the schools 6-8 math teacher and Director of Technology. While in Milwaukee, Mr. Randall also served for 11 years as an assistant coach for the Wisconsin Lutheran College football team, as well as an Instructional Coach for the Center for Urban Teaching. Mr. Randall is currently a member of the coaching staff for the West Lutheran Hight School Football Team. 
Mr. Randall graduated in 2003 from Wisconsin Lutheran College (located in Milwaukee, WI) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a minor in coaching.  In 2010 Mr. Randall received his synodical certification from Martin Luther College. He has also received his Instructional Coaching Certification from WLC and is currently working towards his Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in High Performance Instruction. 
Mr. Randall's wife Angela graduated from Bethel University with a degree in elementary education. The Lord has blessed them with 5 beautiful children, Keagan (6), Micaiah (5), Aliyah (4), Aubriana (2), and Marcus (1).

Mrs. Merry Leerssen is our teacher for Grades 1 and 2.

She grew up in Wood Lake, MN. After graduating from Martin Luther Academy in 1979, she attended Martin Luther College in New Ulm, from which she graduated in 1983. Her first teaching assignment was to teach 1st grade at St. John’s in Baraboo, WI. The following year, she filled the 3rd Grade teacher position and continued teaching 3rd grade for 6 more years. In 1990, she married her husband Dennis and moved to a farm between Rockford and Buffalo. Since then they have been busy raising their 3 children. She began her call at Salem in 2006.

Mrs. Shelley Wolff-Hendershot serves as our music teacher for 5-8th grade and our Jr. Choir Director. She also offers band lessons and conducts a group band at Salem. Mrs. Wolff-Hendershot graduated in 1994 from the UW-Eau Claire with a degree in music education and has served as a music instructor for many years in public school districts including the state of Washington and most recently in the Robbinsdale School District. She is also very active in the coordination of church music for Redeemer Lutheran of Maple Grove. Recently she has been branching out into schools to offer her services - currently serving as a music instructor at Cross of Christ in Coon Rapids when she is not at Salem. 

Mrs. Wolff-Hendershot has two children Brian and Alana.

Pastor Paul Schuler serves as the spiritual shepherd of our congregation. 
  Pastor Schuler attended Northwestern Prepratory School to begin preparation for the public ministry. He continued his education at Northwestern College (which later amalgamated with DMLC to form Martin Luther College), and finished his training in 1998 with a Masters of Divinity from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI. 
      Pastor Schuler's first call was to Mountain View Lutheran Church in Great Falls, Montana. After serving there he accepted a call to St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Appleton, WI where he served until accepting the call to Salem in September of 2015.
       He loves serving as a mentor and coach for other Pastors. This passion has led him to serve our Synod's Seminary on the Lead Team of the Pastor Partners Mentoring Program. He is also an active member of the Crosstrain Coaching Network which supports and encourages spiritual resiliency. 
       God has blessed Pastor Schuler and his wife Tracy with four children, Andrew (17), Jordan (15), Jacob (11), and Aaron (9). They enjoy the outdoors and the open road.

Mrs. Jodi Brandel M. Ed. is our teacher for Grades 3 and 4.

In 2002, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN. She also earned a teaching license from the state of Minnesota. In 2005, she graduated with a Master in Education degree from the University of MN. She has had the opportunity to travel and teach in Thailand as well as write online undergraduate courses. She has 13 years of experience teaching in grades ranging from Kindergarten through 4th. She has taught at St. John’s Lutheran School in NE Minneapolis, Pilgrim Lutheran School in Minneapolis, Ascension Lutheran School in Plymouth, MN and Salem Lutheran School.
Mrs. Brandel is also an organist, pianist, and enjoys running and playing volleyball. Mrs. Brandel and her husband, Lee, have a daughter (6) and son (4).

Mrs. Rachel Berger is our teacher for Kindergarten.

Rachel earned a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Elementary Education degree from Martin Luther College in 2014.  This year will be her first year teaching.  She is from Osceola, WI.  Some of her hobbies are singing, playing board games, playing tennis, and teaching.  She is recently married to Mr. Colton Berger our grades 7 and 8 teacher and athletic director.

Mrs. Lisa Charlson serves as our Prekindergarten teacher and provides the Principal with administrative release time by teaching 5th-6th grade. She graduated from Bethany Lutheran College in 1991 with an Associates of Arts degree and completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Social Studies with a 7-12th grade licensure from St. Cloud State University in 1994. Mrs. Charlson taught in an Independent Study Program as a social studies teacher for high school students for six years and a junior high school homebound teacher for 2 years. In recent years she has been a substitute teacher for students in preschool through high school. She has served Salem as an aide in the Pre-K and 1st-2nd grade rooms. Currently, she is continuing her education toward an early childhood and synod certification. 

Mrs. Charlson has been married for 25 years and is blessed with five children.

Mrs. Rebekah Bohlmann serves as our morning 4th Grade Teacher. 
Mrs. Bohlmann graduated from Martin Luther College in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Her first call was to Star of Bethlehem in Jackson, WI where she taught 3rd Grade. Mrs. Bohlmann is an alumnus of Salem Lutheran School and West Lutheran High School.

Mrs. Bohlmann's husband, Seth, also attended MLC. They have one son, Gideon
